1. texture are good res but they seem a bit too "flawless" and perfect.. kinda un natural like they need more dark patches or just color differentiation from leaf to leaf or something like that but other than that they are good..

and yes keep it up and make it into a full mod ... im planning on doing a "visual stunner" video of the most awesome visuals i can create.. so i would love to use this if it was finished in time

Damn, just today I thought of making a "HD vegetation" mod to accompany the other high-res Crysis mods... :) Your work looks good so far, please do some more of those!

Thanks Nk-Killer, I'll work on making them look a little more dirty and earthy soon :D But i need to do a lot more work, as i find the fade distance for the textures is too low.

lol thanks grim :) i'll try to increase the detail of all vegetation objects in crysis, and maybe create a new grass pack :D if you want you could still make your HighRes textures then we combine them? otherwise im cool with going solo lol
Thanks for the feedback :D

Actually I'm more interested into making new HD face textures for the characters, I'm glad that someone else has taken on the vegetation. :)

lol i was thinking of doing that actually
But im not quite sure how do completely do face textures lol.

Definetly go for it! I reckon it'll be awesome, if you could make the imperfections in the skin really noticable and have a good bumpmap for any imperfections
Sounds awesome just talking about it lol

You certainly got my attention with this thread!
I really liked the realistic forest mods from 'test' and 'xzero' Too bad those projects didn't make it. I'm pleased that you want to make another attempt to create a realistic forest. I guess that brings up the best in CryEngine2.

Like earlier said it’s important to copy also the imperfections you see in nature. Mother nature likes to work with subtle variations.

I wish you good progress!

Also, if you can, add "ambient occlusion" (just a simple gradient overlay) to the leaf textures, so that the inner branches are darker than the outer. It will enhance the depth of the bushes and make them look more like light is diffusing through them. ;)

Small Update

Postby Silent. » 15.01.2010, 18:39

thanks for the feedback everyone :)
lol its a lot more time consuming then i thought, but im determined to get the best possible textures ingame while still having awesome/Steady FPS.

I've been tweaking with the textures, and come up with a new texture for forest trees. Currently its too green and there isnt enough imprefections in the leaves, so i need to add some yellows, some holes and a bit more volume 'to the texture so it looks bumpy. I tried a new texture for the green fern bush, which looks alright in my opinion but could look more detailed.

Another thing i need to work on is making sure the texture doesn't look too repetitive, so i'll try and implement a clever system to make the textures look seemless
...if thats possible lol

I attached 3 more images, feedback is welcome, and so is full critisism :P
More updates coming soon ;)

@Grim, i'll be sure to add ambient occlusion or atleast try. As i said, a lot more to come :meow:

too green. dead leaves are brown, dry and crumply, aged leaves are yellowish, mottling, burned spots, rips and insect holes are missing.

Thanks for the feedback Johncage, i'll be sure to work on that.

And thanks RayFanMan, that upped my enthusiasm for this mod :]

Its going to take a while, just when i think the texture is done, i try it and something isn't right so i need to rework it. I'm pretty close to finishing the forest leaves texture, and i'm aware its a little too green lol. Or maybe its just right and adds that jungle atmosphere? (depends what jungle your in)

Anyway, i've added a few more pictures to show dirt/holes/ageing in the leaves and what they look like from a distance. I also added a comparison showing the old and new texture (second image). Let me know what you think :cheesy:

Much better detail on the leaves but can you also do the palm trees because their textures are really low res too?
