8192x8192 heightmap problems

Postby balloon » 03.06.2012, 21:50

Hi again is there any reason why after creating a new heightmap of 8192x8192 with unit size of 2,manipulating terrain and painting is fine but spawning and adding veg or objects is impossible on many areas as to cause crashing/freezing?I was looking forward as my new heightmap looks good for the coming months to keep me busy.Surely somebody can shed some light. What's the point in crytek advertising these sizes if adding to it is resticted ?

My guess is that either your build isn't powerful enough to work with those resolutions, or that it's simply a bug within the engine that's been hidden (until now) only because most people don't work with such big map res.

Ah well bad news for me my rig is quad core 4.1ghz hd 5970 2gb with 6gb ddr3.Looks like i'll have to try 4096x6 or 8 see how that works as x2 wasn't big enough for my last map. Thanks again for your opinion it was helpful for me in making a descision.
