CryENGINE 3 Custom Weapons

So lately I've been doing a lot of work with custom weapons for CryENGINE, and I've decided that it's about time I make a topic to display my work to the CryDev community. I'm still fairly new to this, but I believe that I am getting a lot better very quickly.

Here was my first attempt at making a custom weapon, honestly it was a huge failure.



My second one, progress begins to become noticeable...



And here is my latest attempt, I am a lot more satisfied with this one than the others, the animations turned out a lot better than the others.




I most likely won't refine the first two, their animations are so messed up it would be difficult to recover the originals without ruining everything, however I do plan to continue improving the G18. I'm hoping to find some pistol sounds somewhere, as well as create a particle effect that ejects 9mm shells.

Well, that's all for now, please critique away! I'd love to hear some feedback on how I've done.

Try focusing on one weapon until it's "perfect". That makes the result significantly better than always making a new weapon hoping it'll get better.

Well like I said, the animations for the first two weapons were so messed up it would be difficult to recover the originals. But I do plan on improving the G!8. None of these weapons are for any serious projects, though, these are just for practicing purposes until I have finished game weapons to work on.

O ya like I totally never thought of that ...

I don't want to put any more work into those first two because they aren't in any way serious and were just for practice. I'm continuing with animating weapons for more serious projects.

Anyway, you could practice animating using these kinda shitty weapons and will be even better when you're on serious projects.

Here's a video of another one, I used the original G18 from my other video and tweaked it slightly to be a G17.

This is really good. Did you still use it as a secondary weapon or did you change the script, so that its a "real" pistol?

I don't know if CryENGINE has specific weapon types, like primary and secondary. I'd have to look over the script again sometime. Can't at the moment though, my PC is broken :P

There definetely is a difference between primary and secondary weapons
e.g. fists -> primary
SCAR -> secondary
Rocketlauncher -> heavy weapon
now, you can see, what I meant ;)

But are these weapon types specified in CryENGINE's weapons system? Or their XML files?

I think, you need to register different types like pistols,rifles,heavy weapons in the weapon system (look in the docs), but afterwards, you can use plenty of one type by writing in the script, which type it is.
but I dont know if there is already a weapon type for pistols registered in the FreeSDK...
