I'm sure the news will echo across the internet, so it won't be for just here.
Crytek are looking for something specific, and have their reasons to do so.
However I do agree that there is plenty of talent here, some know the Cryengine very well, some don't. But there are people on both sides that have great artistic talent which could be put to good use.
I guess maybe they want a senior with experience in the industry so that they understand the inner workings of a large game development studio and the general procedures that are put in place.
Which in my opinion, someone is going to have to learn something either way, none harder than the other, but if Crytek find someone who is both skilled with the Cryengine AND has industry experience, they have then found what they are looking for.
If you want to apply for a job at Crytek, just apply, show them what you've got, senior or no senior, you may be what they are looking for. The worst that can happen is you don't get a job with them (which is no different to the position you're in now), and obviously the best that can happen is you do get a job with them, so why not give it a shot
(Just look at what Cry-JR just said as an example
Anyway, good luck to any applicants. Hopefully one of our fellow forum members gains position, but if not, ohwell, better luck next time!
I would apply myself, especially to be able to help out with Ryse (they could make use of my Colosseum
), but I don't believe these positions are for Ryse, so not applying
