Being in the army, I carry this gun all the time. Having such a good real-world reference, I decided to model it during the weekends when I get some free time.
Heres some information about the weapon. The RK-62 (rynnäkkökivääri-62) is an assault rifle intended for use by the Finnish army as a soldiers personal weapon. The RK-62 has been in production since 1962. Designed to withstand extreme weather conditions of nordic europe, the RK-62 has proven itself as a high quality assault rifle, and is still in service today. The rifle has a pinhole diopter sight for daytime use and an open tritium sight for better nighttime aiming. The RK-62 fires the 7.62x39mm round making it far more powerful than for example the US M4 service rifle.
What I can personally say is that It's amazingly accurate, being able to fit 10 shots on a palm-sized area from 150 meters, especially considering I'm not exactly a professional marksman. It's also a very sturdy weapon, and annoyingly heavy during combat exercises. (although that might be due to me being too weak rather than the gun being too heavy)
As for the model, I've been working on it for 3 weekends now, and the highpoly is pretty much complete. I have a 4 day training camp next week during which ill try to take some reference pics to fix minor inaccuracies in the model. After that i'll get on with making a low poly and baking etc.
