The UnderBarrow Isles

Postby coheed82 » 19.09.2011, 22:44

Ok, well im back with my all new map to showcase here. "dead weight" is still coming along well but the ideas i had rattling around my head for awhile i just had to get this new map underway!!
this is visually the best work ive done so far. the map already contains rugged mountains, small villages, lush forests & an very old style bridge.. The story is set in a time of Myth.. i can't say any more yet.. Enjoy!

heya, i stayed up all night i just couldnt stop mapping. well afew coffees later and heres the latest screens. ive quiet afew to show.. And unlike dead weight, which though is good was definatly abit of a mix n match.. Fast forward to today and this map has a single goal and perspective so to speak. the exact "time" of this world i haven't locked in yet nor the complete story either. But a blend of Ancient Greece & Nordic design is in play here. i hope you like what you see. The only thing i could ask for is some cool "wolves" or "ogres" etc to fight instead of the nk soldiers.. But if i cant find anything usable i'll just make them in 3dsmax! :cheesy:

Also i may yet move my project over to CryEngine 3 SDK.. if not this will still be something i can actually be proud of at least either way.

again more screen, and more and more.
ive covered the ground up well, and adding more as i go, i think i just need to raise some more of the ground up abit so it's not as flat in places.

Ive spent quite some time adding the right kinds of bushes, rocks etc ,, and scattering animals around, adding moss to come out from under big rocks etc etc.
Also using Voxels to create some interesting caves & passages.

Evening all.

i'm back with some crutial updates. the Time Of Day settings are locked in now, unless i can tweak them better than this they will stay as is. But the level will change from day to night and such. much care has gone into this, some of the level its possible to plan, but i find just sitting there in a scene and adding bits and pieces that i get a feel for whats right, kind of like putting yourself into that world & imagining what it would look like and feel like.. Everything from the air you breathe to the shape of the land, where certain animals will nest and inhabit, not to mention the effects of the people on the land & visa versa.

oh, also here's a little something i whipped up in SBD as i'm seriously considering making a short comic or something as a prequel to the story in this "map". :cheesy:

Hey im back with afew shots.
ive added some Fog @ PythonSelkan, hope it's enough. Global density value i set to 2.5
also ive about 20 TGA screens of file sizes over 90,000KB each but i cant get them working here or at my Flash Portfolio website. so ive cut them down to some PNG's & JPEG's. i still have the TGA's aside though to. what do you think?

hey im still working on this map. just having that very annoying error popping up again, "PURE FUNCTION CALL" Engine Error. it's random i find i can make the map for over 3 hours before this happens, other times it's there after just 15 minutes or less.. ive backup's of the map. i've also re-installed both the game & the Editor. With any luck this dam'n error won't come back... tryed cleaning up my Registry as well but we'll see what happens.

kind of irritating when this error pops up as you cant save your work, so you lose the effort you just put into it on that session. anyone else get this problem at all????
