Problems with getting animated objects from 3ds Max

Postby draun » 26.02.2012, 19:50

Hey,

I'm having some problems from getting an animated object from 3ds Max 2012 to Cryengine 3.
I've read the documentation at http://freesdk.crydev.net/display/SDKDOC3/Animation though the animation doesn't seem to work/show in Cryengine.

This is the animated object in 3ds Max (Moved the proxies away, easy to ctrl-Z): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pUenpmZ ... e=youtu.be. I've exported the object to one .cga and .anm files. In-game I can see object itself and I can apply the texture to it but the animations are not working/showing.

Not sure but maybe you forgot some basic stuff
Make sure "play animation" is checked under your animobject.
Can you see your animation(s) in the character editor?

Seems that I got it working after following http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZ-uA18uc5c.
But still it isn't actually what I wanted... I mean the animation is working but how can I make an another object to trigger it? For example a button to trigger the animation for this object?

Another thing is that I'd love to start modelling characters/creatures. How does it differ from objects? I've heard that it's a lot more complex to create a character model & animate it than objects. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find tutorials for modelling & animating the character for CryEngine3.

For this you can use flowgraphing, it shouldn't be too hard to get a grasp of doing something like that.

Animating characters models is much more complex because you are using bones, for example if you move the hand the whole arm needs to move in relation. If you have 3DS max you can use a biped to animate a character, which is the easiest way for me personally, there's tons of biped tutorials out there on Youtube.
Animating animals like horses etc are even more complex and require alot of knowledge of animating for it to look realistic.

Thanks for your answer. I will take a look at the flowgraph and tutorials for it.
Also I will take a look at Biped as I'm using 3ds Max.
