3DS Max export error: "Vertex weight links sum up to 0"

Postby JustNameless » 03.03.2012, 00:14

So, after I finally got rid of the degenerated faces within my export, I now encounter this error:

Image

I am not into 3DS so much yet, but I think theres one vertex just having no links to others. That's my guess at least...

Anyhow, does anyone know, how to fix this problem? It kinda frustrates me, because I seem to be the only one with this problem.

Thanks in advance

Maybe ModNova_FP must have location 0,0,0 or weight sum must a bigger to 0.

I ma having a similar issue with a character model...but the thing is....THE FREAKING VERTEX DOES NOT EXIST! I know this because I selected all of the vertex's and then went to the weight table and scrolled all the way down (because my vertex is number 1059), but apparently the last available listed vertex it 1058. So apparently the CryExporter it complaining and bit$@ing about a vertex that is non-existent. Don't you just love the exporting process? Anyways....if someone knows how to fix this issue then please feel free to post here. We really need some help with this one.

Thanks

i too got the same problem.
when i got this first
i just checked the weight all vertices option in the advance parameter. That time things went alright.
but after i edited the envelope and tried to export it ,i get the same problem u all got

i finally fixed it myself.what i did was:
i selected the vertex with the help of weight table.i found that it is in the hand of my model.i could not locate the vertex exactly so i just selected all the vertex in the hand and i just reset the vertices and the bone by selecting it.
u can find this reset option in the advance parameter in the skin modifier.

i think i might have helped u :))

A couple of things you can try:
1.) Enter in to vertex select, select all vertices in the mesh, and set the Weld number to be something low. This will merge vertices that are close together.
2.) If you are feeling lazy xD you can use a Noice Modifier to - hopefully - add area to the problematic faces (although this is a crude method and probably not good for skinned meshes).

Here is a video addressing techniques for removing degenerate faces that might be useful:

Sounds like a weightless vertex, this could mean one of two scenarios:
1.) Your vertex isn't assigned to any bones and therefore has no weight.
2.) Your vertex is assigned to a bone or bones but the total weight adds up to 0.

Solution: Try selecting all your vertices and checking the weight table. Give the problem vertices some weight on at least one of the bones in your skeleton. Pick a bone closest to the location of the problem vertex. To make sure bones are always assigned to at least one bone, make sure you check Weight all Vertices in the Advanced Parameters of the Skin Modifier. This will force vertices to be assigned to at least one bone.
