CryTek Destruction Depth

Postby thefarcry » 15.04.2012, 12:20

Hi,

I was just looking through the Battlefield 3 GDC 2012 presentations and I see they used destruction depth quite a lot, I was wondering if you could do this in Cry Engine?

Thanks ever so much :)

You can chip parts off models or terrain. For example a rocket explodes on the terrain and it creates a big crater.

CryEngine 1 let you shoot craters but this feature has been removed since CE2.
Destroyable models is possible in a ton ways, prefabs, breakables, destroyables, even some procedural destruction (only for thin materials and trees though)

I don't see anything here of interest? I don't mind modding the C++ code, it shouldn't take me that long.

Plus, I'm creating my own 3D engine anyway, so it should be easy enough to do.

EDIT: Spelling mistakes.
