Looking ahead at things to come: CRYENGINE Launcher Update

We will soon have an update to the CRYENGINE Launcher that makes it easier than ever to create and manage your projects, while also making changes to the layout and providing users with a more comfortable way to report issues.

Revamped Design

The first thing you will notice after updating the CRYENGINE Launcher is a new design for the homepage. We moved all the links to our social channels to the bottom to make more room for news, and featured assets. We think it looks great- what’s your take? We also put that additional space to good use by adding a “Launch Game” button to all your projects, so you can start testing your latest work straight away. You can still launch your project in the Sandbox by clicking on its name.

Project creation

One aspect of your overall CRYENGINE experience that we have greatly simplified with this update is project creation. Just click on “+ New” on the homepage, and are taken to the new project creation screen. Here you can select your engine version (out of all available), whether you want to use C# or C++, and what template to use. Eagle-eyed readers may also notice that the below screenshot includes six all-new C++ templates we will ship with CRYENGINE 5.2, covering a variety of camera angles and genres. Finally, name your project and select a file path, and you are ready to start developing. Alternatively, you can just stick to the pre-filled information.

Issue Reporter

While we are busy eliminating as many issues as we can prior to releases, there is always that one pesky bug that slips through. To make reporting these issues easier for users, we have added a new tool to the launcher. By clicking on the cogwheel in the upper right corner (options), users can at any time go to the Issue Reporter. Here, you can not only put in information relevant to the issue you want to report, but also chose to attach the related dump and log files. Attaching these files can make it much easier for our teams to find out what caused the issue.

So there you have it- three changes that should make working with the CRYENGINE Launcher better than ever. You can expect this update to be released very soon, in preparation for CRYENGINE 5.2.
