The UV Mapping Editor is designed to provide easy and powerful ways to define UVs of a designer object, with similar results to ones users could build in Maya, 3dsMax or Blender.
So far the existing UV unwrapping way was very limited. It didn't provide a visual editing system so the user couldn't apply complex and customized UV coordinates to polygons.
The UV Mapping Editor provides easy and more powerful ways to define UVs of a designer object, very similar to what you could build in most 3D modeling software like Maya, 3DsMax or Blender. We understand these tools can be difficult to learn, and simpler ones like SketchUp can’t accomplish the level of polish CRYENGINE users are accustomed to.
The community has been asking for solutions to these issues and we’re really excited to provide an independent tool that has the most critical functionalities for asset and level creation, but also improve on our Designer Tool. You will be able to make high quality assets from scratch without leaving the sandbox:
